About Tutu Etoile
Lydia Harmon graduated from California Institute of The Arts with her BFA in dance and from the University of AZ with an MFA in costume design. She began her professional costuming career in 1989 designing costumes for The Magic of David Copperfield's television specials and stage shows while dancing as his magic assistant. Upon retiring from dance, she worked in the costume shops of Houston Ballet as well as Houston Grand Opera, the University of Arizona School of Dance, and Huntsville Ballet, on productions that include Dracula, Swan Lake, Nutcracker, Stars and Stripes, Madame Butterfly, Magic Flute and Salome. She trained to construct tutus with professionals from the Kremiln, Stanislavski and English National Ballet companies.
Since the inception of Tutu Etoile in 1998, her company has designed and/ or constructed costumes for many productions all over the world for ballet, modern dance, operettas and musical theatre including; Merce Cunningham’s “Winterbranch” and William Forsythe’s “Quintett” for LA Dance Project under the direction of Benjamin Millepied, Donald McKayle’s, “Rainbow Round My Shoulder”, and the ballet scenes for the feature movie, “Red Sparrow”, with Jennifer Lawrence. Her extensive experience as a professional dancer and the over 25 years in dance costume design and construction has made Ms. Harmon appreciate the importance of the fine quality fit, fabrics and construction techniques used in every Tutu Etoile and MensBalletCostumes costume.
